At the time of the 2011 earthquake, Japan received from Taiwan, which has a population of less than 2.4 million people, more than 20 billion yen in relief donation. The following year, in 2012, the number of Japanese tourists to Taiwan reached a record high. Many Japanese people who visit Taiwan say they see traces of Japan on this island. If the colonial history isn't even a century old, many people tend to forget the complexity of the past and what links countries, lands, peoples, times, what brought us to the present we live in. This film is Atsuko Sakai's second documentary work collecting voices of the "Japanese generation" in Taiwan.

Chenggong Town (Taitung County) has a population of approximately 15,000 people. This area, located in the southeastern part of Taiwan and surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and mountain ranges, has been home to many Japanese and Han Chinese people since the completion of the fishing port in 1932, creating a fishing and agricultural town. Japanese immigrants brought swordfish fishing with a stick, and this fishing method is still used today. Atsuko Sakai depicts the people who have lived facing the sea and the land even as times have changed, living their lives honestly, placing "prayer", "gratitude for life" and "family" at the center of them. The final chapter of Sakai's Taiwanese trilogy.

Kurokawa Yoshimasa, Daidoji Masashi, Masunaga Toshiaki, and Arai Mariko, all members of the East Asian Anti-Japanese Armed Front " Scorpion, " were incarcerated for instigating the bombing of the Marunouchi offices of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. This film was conceived of and directed by Kurokawa whilst in prison. During the making of this film, he and his fellow members were under sentences of death or life imprisonment. As testimony to Kurokawa's idea that " the emperor system is not only an incarnation of the patriarchal principle but also the embodiment of the female principle, " the film aims " to critically examine the essence of the Japanese maternal image. Gift from the Ice - Japan's Wild North
2024JP50m
6.9(1)
The Shiretoko National Park, on the northern tip of the Japanese peninsular, is a little-known paradise for wild animals and birds. Deservedly designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the park’s stunning biodiversity relies on the delicate balance of the changing seasons, and the drifting pack ice that descends in winter. Hundreds of brown bears roam through the park in autumn, gathering on the riverbanks to catch migrating salmon. Winter brings freezing temperatures and the return of Stellar Sea Eagles from Russia, who dive between the few remaining gaps of the pack ice to catch fish, as deceptively angelic sea snails hunt their prey. When the ice melts in spring, herring feed on the blooming plankton, enticing shearwater seabirds from Australia, fin whales, and orcas. With climate change altering the natural habitat of these creatures, what will become of Japan’s biodiversity hotspot?
