After an apocalyptic winter consumes the Earth, humanity’s survivors cling to life aboard a purpose-built train, endlessly looping the globe. First class passengers live in luxury, while those in the tail near-starve, until an unexpected murder sees ‘tailie’ detective Layton pulled to the front in order to investigate.

In season two, an entirely new power struggle emerges, causing a dangerous rift as people are divided between their loyalty to Layton and to Mr. Wilford, who has a new train, new technology and a game plan that keeps everyone guessing. While Layton battles Wilford for the soul of Snowpiercer, Melanie leads the charge on a shocking new discovery that could change the fate of humanity.

Season 3 picks up with Layton and his inner circle commanding a small 10-car “pirate train” in search of Melanie and a possible warm location to restart civilization. Meanwhile, back on the train, Mr. Wilford is consolidating power, awaiting Layton’s return.

Earth is covered in ice and is uninhabitable. The last surviving humans traverse the planet on a train, where they struggle to survive and maintain a balance that grows more fragile with each passing day.
